- A thin circular flap is created through the top layer of the cornea.
- The flap is very gently folded over.
- Removes some corneal tissue underneath using cool ultraviolet light beam (laser).
- Usually takes about 2 minutes per eye.
- The flap is then replaced and left to heal naturally without the need for any stitches.
- When the cornea is reshaped in the right way, it works better to focus light into the eye and onto the retina, providing clearer vision than before.
